GALVESTON ISLAND FERRY INFORMATION
 
For those of you that are adventuresome, you can get to Galveston Island via the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry. The Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry is the bridge between two segments of State Highway 87. South of IH-10, State Highway 87 is the only highway around Galveston Bay. The free ferry service provided by TxDOT is the only way motorists can cross the waterway between Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island. The 2.7 mile trip takes approximately 18 minutes to cross one of the busiest waterways in the world.

The ferry runs 24 hours per day and is a free service.

While on the Port Bolivar side of the trip, why not take in the ancient Port Bolivar lighthouse. The Port Bolivar Lighthouse was first lit in 1872 and deactivated in 1933. it is made of cast iron with a brick lining and is 116 ft tall. The lighthouse is now privately owned.
