Ahoy, mate! Join TxDLA-ers from around the state as we set sail on an adventure-filled conference. Remember at TxDLA we are all about leaving with new found friendships and this night is no exception to that. Your fellow members will also have chips to swap or giveaway, prizes will be given out for different combinations throughout the evening as well as door prizes on the hour. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 (6:00 – 10:00PM)**
Catch the wave to the Texas Seaport Museum where we will be shipwrecked on the Strand. This is destined to be an evening of excitement and entertainment. TxDLA-ers will "go out to sea" for an evening that starts with mingling and drinks at the Texas Seaport Museum. Don’t forget to dress as your favorite Gilligan’s Island character for your chance to win amazing prizes. After your “three hour tour" (okay so it’s more like an hour), drift to one of the local hot spots on Galveston Island's Strand for your pick of food, games and fun.

** Buses will begin departing from the front of the Moody Gardens Hotel at 5:45 p.m. to shuttle attendees between the hotel and the Texas Seaport Museum and will return approximately every 30 minutes. The last bus departs from the Texas Seaport Museum at 10:15 p.m. to return to Moody Gardens. SOS, don’t be late, mate! (dropoffs will also be made as necessary to La Quinta, Holiday Inn on the Beach, Hilton and Inn at the Waterpark).

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 (6:00 – 9:00PM) - Garden Lobby of the Visitor's Center near the Moody Gardens Pyramids
Party at the Pyramid anyone? All Aboard! Join us as we say “Bon Voyage” the only way TxDLA knows how: dancing, drinking, eating, gambling and of course dressing up. Show off your fancy footwork on the dance floor, see if we can call your bluff at the Casino, and your cruise director, Julie McCoy wants to see if you can pull off re-creating a character from the Love Boat. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, fanciest footwork and for whoever has the lucky ticket. Coast into the evening hours and make this a night to remember.

Tai Chi at TxDLA
Thursday, March 27, 2008 (7:30 AM) - Yoga Room near Fitness Center on 2nd Floor
David Thomas, Associate Professor in the Social & Behavioral Sciences Department at TSTC Waco

An introduction to the basic forms and movement of Tai Chi. As described by Wikipedia Tai Chi Chuan was created as a form of traditional Chinese martial arts of the Neijia (soft or internal) branch. Since the first widespread promotion of Tai Chi's health in the early twentieth century, it has developed a worldwide following among people with little or no interest in martial training for its benefit to health and health maintenance. Some call it a form of moving meditation, as focusing the mind solely on the movements of the form purportedly helps to bring about a state of mental calm and clarity. Some of the benefits attributed to the practice of Tai Chi include: reduced stress, improved balance, and improved immune system to name just a few.
