Newly-Elected Focus on Advancing TxDLA’s Mission
Submitted by Laurel Mayo
The TxDLA organization will profit from the experiences and dedication of its newly elected leaders who along with current officers and board members continue to make the organization a dynamic growing community.
Terry Comingore, who will continue in his role as Treasurer, learned the ropes of accounting as an undergrad but has put his talents to use for the Child Development Council of Brazoria County as well as for other community boards he sits on. He has been on TxDLA’s Finance Committee and the Program committees for several conferences, both as a member and co-chair. When the former Treasurer’s position was unexpectedly vacated in April 2006, then-president Jenny Jopling convinced Terry to take the financial lead in completing the term of office. With the recent elections Terry says it just made sense to offer his services again. He plans to enhance the clarity of the financial statements by including footnotes to them.
Carol Willis will step up to the plate as a Member at Large for the Board of Directors. She ran for office because she strongly believes in TxDLA’s mission and thinks that her years of volunteer service on boards in her community will also be beneficial to the organization. Carol currently serves on TxDLA’s Public Policy committee. She is looking forward to the annual conference where she will be presenting with colleagues from Texas Educational Service Centers about their collaborative projects using interactive video.
President-elect Rhonda Blackburn says she stepped into the leadership arena because she felt the need to give back in a big way to the organization which has supported her in the development of her teaching and training career. Her plans for TxDLA include solidifying the organization’s role in defining public policy as well as its being a solid resource for
THECB. Rhonda’s upcoming conference duties include chairing the printed program along with networking with the TxDLA constituency in anticipation of her new duties, especially that of chairing the 2008 annual conference.
A tip of the hat to these leaders who begin their terms of office July 1, 2007!
