Board Approves Oscar Hernandez to Fill Regional Group Development Chair Vacancy

At the March, 2007 Board meeting, Oscar Hernández, Spanish Instructor at South Texas College, was approved as TxDLA’s Regional Group Development Chair. Hernandez is filling the remaining term of Maria Photo-Oscar Hernandez Hernandez who resigned from the board due to a change of employment and new demands on her time. According to Patrick Pluscht, Chairman of the Board, “Maria's service on the Board has been much appreciated.”

Ashton Graham, Far West Texas Regional Group Co-chair, said, "I believe Oscar's enthusiasm, love of TxDLA, and expertise will lead the regional groups to new heights."

Hernandez was recently elected to this Regional Group Development Chair (2007-2010) and was to begin his full-term on July 1, 2007.

"Oscar hit the ground running when approved to fill the Regional Group Development chair vacancy. On short notice, he pulled together a briefing with the regional group chairs at the recent conference and provided them with some helpful tips on the regional group meetings they would be coordinating. He's not afraid to jump in and make good things happen. I'm looking forward to the many contributions I know he'll make to TxDLA leadership," Pluscht said.

Hernandez has been active in TxDLA having served as the Food Committee Chair and Volunteers and Facilitators Committee co-chair for the 2007 Conference. Hernández has served as a co-coordinator of TxDLA’s Rio Grande Regional Group and is currently a member of the Awards Committee, Finance Committee, and Public Policy Committee. This year, he served as chair of the Regional Group Guide Subcommittee.

At South Texas College, Hernandez teaches both traditional and online courses. He currently serves as the Mid-Valley Campus Faculty and Staff Advisory Committee Chair for a second term and is part of the 2006-2007 STC President’s Faculty Advisory Committee, Faculty Senate, Curriculum, and Program Review Committee. Over the past few years, Hernandez has served on the STC Distance Learning Evaluation Committee.
