TxDLA Fall Elections In Full Swing

The Texas Distance Learning Association has opened the fall elections for two officer positions, President-Elect and Secretary, and one Board Member-At-Large (2008-2011). Voting opened today and will continue through Friday, December 14, 2007, and, if the initial trend continues, a heavy membership turnout is expected.

Candidates for President-Elect are Bob Barnes (Education Service Center Region 10) and Brenda Quintanilla (Lee College). Two candidates vying for Secretary are Dena Faust (Alvin Community College) and Cindy Smith (Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges & Universities).

In a repeat of the last Member-At-Large election held in September, a large slate of outstanding candidates is running for a 3-year Member-At-Large term (2008-2011) and includes the following: Pamela A. Dooley (Northside ISD Virtual High School), Kimberly Barnett Gibson (Our Lady of the Lake University), Jenny Girón (El Paso Community College), Ken Haley (Paris Junior College), Kevin Lemoine (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board), Teela Watson (Decatur ISD), Sally Yang (Texas A&M University), and Paula Yezak (Temple ISD).

Kevin Eason, Board Chairman, said, "I am pleased at the number of TxDLA members who have stepped forward to be a candidate for an officer or at-large board member position. The experience and credentials these individuals have to offer will ensure
TxDLA's future is in good hands."

“After opening the election process, I went into the database to delete test ballots and, within the first 10 minutes, 9 members had already voted,” said Bennie Tschoerner, TxDLA CIO. “Within 4 hours, over 5% of the membership had voted,” Tschoerner said.

"Each member's vote is critical to the outcome of the election," said Eason, "and one of the most important things you can do as a member is to help select our future leaders."

An email detailing the voting procedure was sent to all active members by Ken Rosier, Nominations and Elections Chair, on Monday, December 3, 2007. If you did not receive this email, contact Lisa Fry, Association Manager, at lisa@txdla.org  for voting information.
