Longtime TxDLA Member, Terry Spurlock, Has Died

Randy McDonald, Co-chair of the East Texas Regional Group, has passed along the sad news that Terry Spurlock, one of our longtime TxDLA  members and dear friends passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2009. Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. A memorial service has been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens.

Colleen, his wife, said that since the early 1990s, her husband had taken a personal interest in distance education and using technologies such as the Internet to teach students. Spurlock, who was the college’s director of distance learning in addition to being chairman of the Social Sciences Division, had hoped to see, before he retired, a day when TVCC offered an entire associate’s degree program over the Web.
