The 2020 Inductee for the Hall of Fame is Teela Watson. Over the course of her career, Teela Watson has been a K-12 Secondary Classroom Teacher, a Corporate Software Trainer, an Education Consultant and Trainer, an Instructional Technologist, an Assistant Principal, a Coordinator of Instructional Technology, and, most recently, Director of Instructional Services. For almost thirty years, Teela Watson has facilitated high-quality learning experiences in both the corporate world and the K-12 educational arena. During the early days of videoconferencing, when many educators were wondering what to do with expensive videoconferencing equipment, Teela researched avenues for ideas, and identified potential programs and funding sources and began developing a variety of ways to enhance curriculum. Teela has served on advisory and education foundation boards including Teacher’s College Advisory Board – Western Governor’s University, and the Decatur ISD Education Foundation Board. Teela has advocated for distance learning through her involvement with buying consortiums for the Education Service Center, Region 11 area, and for the State of Texas, to facilitate access to innovative solutions and instructional technology tools for technology-rich, as well as resource-poor, independent school districts and charter schools. As Director of Instructional Services for ESC 11, Teela created a region-wide purchasing cooperative that has been responsible for the licensing and implementation of over twenty-five educational software solutions. These tools are available to all 77 independent school districts and 66 charter schools in the ESC 11 service area. The Statewide Digital Instructional Resource Consortium was started fifteen years ago to license educational products for use across the state. All twenty Education Service Centers in Texas participate, and Teela Watson and ESC 11 manages the group. Through Teela’s leadership and advocacy, five additional products have been added to the portfolio (previously one) and made available for use by independent school districts and charter schools throughout Texas. Teela has been active in TxDLA for almost twenty years, participating in annual conferences and has Fall Leadership Workshops, and serving on several conference planning committees.
