This is Natalie from SoftChalk! I am joining from Richmond, VA! 00:33:16 Charlene Stubblefield: Please let us know your name and where you are from. 00:33:16 Kim Loomis: I'm excited to be sharing from Las Vegas, NV 00:33:26 Charlene Stubblefield: Welcome Scott!!! 00:34:04 Lisa Tomsio: Good morning everyone! Lisa Tomsio from TxDLA here! :) 00:36:25 Natalie Saltzberg: Thank you all for joining us today! 00:37:25 Charlene Stubblefield: Welcome everyone… 00:38:30 Charlene Stubblefield: Please change to “All panelists and attendees” so that everyone benefits from what you are saying 00:46:03 Lisa Tomsio: Be sure to go to the bottom of the chat under "TO" and select "all panelists and attendees" so that everyone can see your chat message. 00:51:29 Madeline Williams: Both of my college-aged kids are questioning going back to their 4-year universities if they are going to get what they got this last semester. The one at TCU is especially questioning it, as we are paying a lot for what he is currently getting there. 00:52:41 Charlene Stubblefield: Scott, that is very interesting. What are the plans if they don’t return? 00:52:51 Rhonda Blackburn: I have heard this quite a bit, but I think we need to change what we are doing instead of having students needing to change what they are doing... 00:53:48 Madeline Williams: Trying to figure it out. Maybe taking a year off, as the one at TCU is in a program (Music Ed) that he can’t go somewhere else and make progress. He is very disillusioned by what he got from TCU last semester. 00:54:46 Madeline Williams: I do think that community colleges like mine are going to do well out of this — we are cheaper, local, and have been teaching online for decades. I personally have been teaching online for 14 years now, whereas all of my son’s professors last semester had never taught online before the change happened. 00:55:39 Charlene Stubblefield: Yes, I agree community colleges will benefit from student who don’t plan to return right now…. 00:56:28 Rhonda Blackburn: It will be interesting to see where students go and what that looks like! 00:58:13 Natalie Saltzberg: My daughter will start Kindergarten this fall so I am interested to see what that will be like for her. The only thing I am thankful for is that she doesn't know any different. Whatever ends up happening will just be her "normal". 00:59:39 Madeline Williams: I have two kids in college, one in high school, and one in elementary. Each had different challenges with this transition. 01:00:05 Rhonda Blackburn: My daughter has just finished 3rd grade online in a dual-language program. Her teachers and school did an amazing job moving online. They are trying to figure out what it will look like next year! 01:00:53 Madeline Williams: Our first grader is at a Montessori school - they had strict requirements of how much she had to do each day, and we think she is not behind at all. However, that only worked because my wife and I were at home and had the ability to guide and direct her schooling at home. 01:00:58 Rhonda Blackburn: I have a kid that is in grad school and the 3rd grader and one that is studying for the LSAT. It is all different! 01:01:46 Charlene Stubblefield: Two different spectrums: Students in college and those just starting their educational journey. Wonder how this pandemic will effect todays kindergartner’s ???!!! 01:01:55 Rhonda Blackburn: I agree, I was able to move my student along, but I know a student I mentored was not in the same situation. Both of his parents had to work, so it was hard for him to keep up. 01:02:25 Madeline Williams: Whereas my junior in high school had quite varied and overall minimal educational planning for the last part of the semester. It was made pass/fail in Fort Worth ISD, and she only had a few teachers who really tried much to bring the education along for her. 01:04:44 Madeline Williams: What she just said is exactly what my high schooler faced. She did quite a bit of work for those teachers who gave her stuff to do, but she moaned about it, especially with it all being pass/fail. 01:10:21 Rhonda Blackburn: My daughter's school district did take grades, but not everything was a grade, so she learned that it is really good to work through materials and complete it, but understanding it was there to help them when she actually completed work that was for a grade! It was a great learning experience for her! 01:11:54 Madeline Williams: My scheduled presentation at the canceled TxDLA conference was going to be on using self-reflection with students to help they succeed in the class. 01:12:49 Rhonda Blackburn: Madeline, that sounds amazing! 01:13:40 Madeline Williams: Sorry, I’m not Madeline, lol. Just realized I forgot to change the name. This is Scott Williams - That’s what comes from using Zoom so much for all of the different sessions these days. 01:14:27 Rhonda Blackburn: Sorry Scott! But my comment stands! I love that you really think about reflection! 01:15:44 Lisa Tomsio: Hi everyone … just another reminder for the chat ... when you are going to send a message, at the bottom right corner where it says "to: ____" to select the little arrow and choose "all panelists and attendees" so that attendees (not just the speaker) can see your comments! I think people are posting messages and only the presenters are seeing them. 01:16:39 Madeline Williams: I also had my students complete a module on learning how to learn, where they watched and reacted to the Crash Course series on Study Skills 01:20:05 Martha Chalhoub: Please address Authentic Assessment 01:21:05 Jenell: Thanks Lisa! :) 01:23:28 Jenell: Even in the government sector, we still need supervisors to assist. Although different players, same issue.... Also, with new employees, their level of integration will be similar to kindergartner's.. Great info! 01:23:51 Rhonda Blackburn: I completely agree Jenell!
